Upgrading a Tesla to a larger battery pack

A friend of mine spent almost $30,000 Canadian dollars upgrading his Signature Model X P90D to a 100D, so it is possible, but check with Tesla..

I've heard of cases where a faulty battery was replaced with a slightly larger one. However, this isn't something you can directly request from Tesla.

My buddy had his Tesla upgraded from a 60 to a 75 via a software update before. Not totally sure if that’s still an option, though - might be worth checking with your dealer!

@TeslaSDriver25 Look, upgrading a Tesla battery can be tricky. If you're not careful, you'll void your warranty, especially if you recently bought a used 2017 model (hopefully you got an extended warranty!).

Places like wk057 might offer upgrades, but honestly, unless the battery is completely dead, it's probably not worth the cost. A battery upgrade is a serious investment.

If you only need extra range occasionally, renting a long-range Model 3 or Y for those trips would be much cheaper in the long run.

My son’s first Tesla was a 2017 Model X 75D.

He looked into upgrading the battery to the 100D, but it's not as simple as just swapping out the pack. There are other components involved that would need to be changed as well. He can't recall the specifics, but he did some research at the time.

In the end, he decided to lease his 75D and bought a 2020 Model X Performance instead.
