Hey there! So I've had this used 2017 Model S for about 2 weeks now and I'm thinking of slapping a dashcam on it. Do you know if Tesla sells the OEM dashcam for it? Also, I noticed this female plug taped under the overhead console between the map lights, could that be for hooking up an aftermarket or OEM dashcam?

I'm keen to install it myself. Any tips or advice before I jump into it?

If you already have the upgrade but can't find the dashcam function, it could be as simple as plugging in a USB drive. Since yours is from 2017, newer models from 2018 and onwards already have the MCU2 that allows features like a built-in dashcam and a security mode that keeps an eye on things when you're parked.

I believe Tesla didn't have a built-in dashcam in 2017. :)

They added it later using software updates for cars with MCU2. If your Model S/X is from before March 2018, it probably doesn't have MCU2. You can check if it's possible to upgrade to MCU2.

That would give you access to dashcam and sentry mode. Also, make sure you have a USB plugged in, as that's sometimes required for the dashcam icon to appear.
