The door speakers are something to be desired. Especially the right one, sounds totally blown! Looking to upgrade them.

Anyone done a simple speaker swap themselves? What did you go with? Heard some folks put in 4-ohm speakers, but worried it might not be loud enough.

I'm curious about re-using the stock speaker mounts or getting fancy with 3D printed ones?
Looking at a simple upgrade/repair for base audio system door speakers. How's the wiring work with the crossover? Hoping to get some decent speakers in before the upgrade so I can really crank up the tunes!

Update:
Just did a fun experiment comparing budget door speakers in my Tesla! It wasn't all sunshine and roses - turns out impedance matters a lot. The JBLs (around 2.6 ohm) bumped the bass and volume nicely, but they got a bit too harsh on the highs. Maybe because the car already has tweeters? The Skar Audio speakers (4 ohm) sounded rich, but they just couldn't keep up volume-wise. Seems Tesla's system likes low-resistance speakers.

Planning to grab some used Tesla 8" mid-subs next (supposedly 1 ohm!) for the front doors. They should kick way harder than the JBLs. Then I'll move the JBLs to the back and add some tweeters up front for a more balanced sound.

Overall, a fun learning experience on speaker selection for Teslas!

Upgrading the door speakers is totally worth it! I used Polk Audio 4-ohm speakers, and they’ve been fantastic. For mounts, I’d definitely recommend 3D printing if you have access, it makes the fit super precise. As for wiring, Tesla’s audio setup is already crossed over at the amp, so no need for external crossovers unless you’re doing a full custom job. Just double-check the speaker depth before buying, as the Tesla doors don’t leave a ton of room!
