Has anyone pushed the limits? Looking to beef up the stance on my 18' 75D with wider rear tires, but the shop says 295s are a no-go. Anyone out there running wider than the stock 245s on the 19x8" rims? What's the safe limit? Alternatively, thinking staggered setup with 20x9" Model X wheels and spacers in the rear for wider rubber.

I understand that you want to fit wider tires on your Model S, but the tire tech is absolutely right. You can't safely fit anything wider than 255/45R19 on your OE wheels.

If you're looking to go wider, your best option is to upgrade to aftermarket wheels with a staggered setup. This will allow you to fit a 275/40R19 in back, which will be a perfect match for your OE front tires.

Keep in mind that this is about as far as you can go without making modifications to your car.

You’re definitely pushing the limits with 295s on an 8" rim! 295s on the stock 8" rims are probably overkill, but a staggered setup with 20x9" wheels sounds like a solid plan. The safe bet for stock rims would be 255s, but if you’re committed to a wider rear, a staggered setup with 20x9" wheels and properly chosen spacers could work well. Just double-check offsets and overall diameter to avoid rubbing or speedometer inaccuracies. Wider tires can look amazing, but make sure you don’t compromise safety or ride quality in the process.
