I’ve got a Model S LR with the OEM staggered 19” wheels—255s in the front and 285s in the rear. While I’m enjoying the car overall, I’m not a fan of the staggered setup. My neighbor has a 2020 pre-refresh Model S LR, and I noticed that his doesn’t have staggered wheels, which got me thinking.
Would it be safe to swap out the rear 285s for 255s, using the same OEM front wheels all around? I’m more interested in function over appearance, and being able to rotate the tires front-to-back for longer tire life would be ideal. I initially assumed the wider rears were necessary for handling the car’s weight and power, but now I’m wondering if a square setup would work fine.
